Breast Implants: Mentor Breast Implants

Mentor Implants

If you’re hoping to receive silicone implants for your breast augmentation surgery but are not sure where to go to find them, look at Mentor breast implants.  Mentor is one of the only FDA (Food and Drug Administration) approved silicone breast implant manufacturing organizations.  With headquarters in Santa Barbara, California, Mentor Worldwide LLC supplies aesthetic products such as silicone gel breast implants, lipoplasty equipment, and skin care products to plastic surgeons all around the world.

How Mentor Breast Implants Are Used

Mentor breast implants are surgically implanted into the breast, either underneath the breast tissue or the chest muscle.  These MemoryGel™ silicone gel filled breast implants are used on females ages 22 and above for breast augmentation.  This includes women who are seeking to increase their breast size as well as women who have previously had breast augmentation surgery and are seeking a breast correction or breast revision surgery.  In addition, Mentor implants can be used for women who need breast reconstruction after undergoing a mastectomy or other surgery or traumatic experience in which breast tissue was removed.  These implants are not recommended for women who have infections in their bodies, cancer or pre-cancer in the breast, or who are currently nursing or pregnant.

History of Mentor Worldwide LLC

Mentor was founded in 1969 in the city of Minneapolis, Minnesota.  Originally, the company sold electronic laboratory instruments to measure activity within the nervous system.  After introducing urethral catheters in the 1970s, they began delving into the plastic surgery field in the mid-1980s.  Now, their breast implants have been used for millions of breast augmentation surgeries for women everywhere over the past 20 years.

Safety of Mentor Implants

In the 1990s, silicone gel implants were deemed unsafe by the Food and Drug Administration.  However, after significant research and testing, Mentor MemoryGel™ silicone gel filled breast implants were approved by the FDA in 2006.  Unlike questionable silicone filled breast implants, Mentor implants are completely safe.  The silicone released in the event of a Mentor implant rupture is very minimal; it is less than that to which women are exposed daily, such as through soap, processed foods, lotions, and chewing gum.

Mentor Silicone Breast Implants: Size and Profile

Mentor implants use a textured or smooth surface shell.  They come in an extensive range and variety of sizes and profiles.  At Mentor, they strive to ensure that every woman’s body type can be properly fitted with the best silicone breast implant for them.  Their variety of implant profiles and sizes are widely suited to appropriately fit each woman’s body type.  Here is a list of the profiles they provide:

  • Round Mentor MemoryGel™ Breast Implants: Classic Profile – This is the standard profile projection of implant, with a wider base width at the chest.
  • Round Mentor MemoryGel™ Breast Implants: Moderate Plus Profile – This has a higher projection with a more moderate base width.
  • Round Mentor MemoryGel™ Breast Implants: High Profile – Higher projection, moderate base width.
  • Round Mentor MemoryGel™ Breast Implants: Ultra High Profile – The highest projection available, with the smallest base width.

Why does projection matter?  The profile of a breast implant has to deal with the projection out from the chest wall.  Women who have an already large frame and wide shoulders will look far better with a wider base width and standard projection (classic or moderate plus profile); high profile implants will make their breasts appear too narrow from the front and too projected from the side.  Likewise, women with small frames and naturally small breasts may want high or ultra high profile Mentor implants to add more shape to their frame.  Mentor offers a Volume Sizing System to help women choose the correct size and profile before going into surgery.

Saline Mentor Breast Implants

In addition to the standard silicone implants, Mentor also offers FDA approved saline breast implants available to women as young as 18.  These feel slightly firmer, but have a flexible fill volume that the surgeon can adjust (rather than the set fill volume of the silicone implants).  Both types are covered by certain warranties and lifetime replacement policies.
